Washington, Little Washington and Amissville
 Public education in Rappahannock County is provided by Rappahannock County Public Schools. The district has two campuses, Rappahannock County Elementary and Rappahannock County High School. District-wide enrollment is about 1,000, with about 60 percent of these students attending the elementary school. For both schools combined, the student-to-teacher ratio average is a low 11.5.
Rappahannock and Culpeper Counties support residents’ strong interest in the arts. The Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community promotes the arts through the production of events and performances at venues throughout the county. Two of the best known arts venues are in Washington, the Theatre at Washington and Ki Theatre. The Theatre hosts its own music concerts, comedies and drama performances, as well as events produced by the arts association. Ki Theatre serves the needs of the community through original performances, songwriting workshops and storytelling programs. A notable landmark in the region is The Inn at Washington. The Inn is considered one of the world’s finest getaways. It has repeatedly received accolades both for its accommodations and its restaurant. Part of the Inn’s magic is its quiet location in Washington, where the Blue Ridge Mountains rise impressively in the background. The ambience is developed further through a fine and luxurious décor combined with highly personalized customer service. The climate of the Washington and Amissville region is generally cool and comfortable. Culpeper County is typically a couple of degrees warmer than Rappahannock, where temperatures rarely exceed 90 degrees. Winters are mild, with nighttime temperatures dipping into the teens in December and January. Annual rainfall averages about 42 inches, with the most precipitation occurring between May and August. |
